Ukrainian troops did not retreat in certain sectors of the front in the east – maneuverable defense is being carried out. This was stated by the speaker of the Ministry of Defense Alexander Motuzyanyk during a briefing on May 25.

The journalist asked a representative of the Ministry of Defense to comment on the information of some “international agencies” that the Russians are allegedly advancing, while the Armed Forces of Ukraine are allegedly retreating in the eastern regions.
“Such terminology is not very correct. Of course, Russian groups have temporary tactical success in some separate areas – this is not a secret in principle. But the fact that Ukrainian troops are retreating there is an absolutely wrong interpretation of these actions,” Motuzyanyk said.
He stressed that in certain sectors of the front, Ukrainian units are conducting a mobile defense: “Where it is possible – step aside, change positions. If favorable conditions occur, carry out counter-offensive actions.”
According to a representative of the Ministry of Defense, in the east of Ukraine there are some territories and settlements that can change hands, and the situation there is very dynamic.
“Therefore, I do not confirm the interpretation that the Ukrainian army allegedly retreats there, it is absolutely not true,” Motuzyanyk added.
- May 23 Ukrainian troops departed from Svetlodarsk and Mironovsky Bakhmutsky district of Donetsk region in order to avoid encirclement or significant losses. The Ministry of Internal Affairs does not rule out that there may be several more “retreats” of Ukrainian troops to level the front line.
