The Ministry of Culture to co-organize a K-pop concert for 3,000 people

SEOUL, Nov. 14 (Yonhap) – The government will host a large face-to-face K-pop concert attended by 3,000 people this Sunday to help people gradually return to normal lives after nearly two years of restrictions meant to slow down the spread of Covid-19.

The Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism and its private foundation, the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchanges, said that the “World K-pop Concert: BIT 4U Concert” will be held at the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) in Goyang, northwest of Seoul, at 7 p.m.

This is the first large-scale music concert organized by the government after the uniform implementation, on November 1, of the first phase of the “living with Covid-19” program across the country, which has lifted the main virus control restrictions.

The ministry said it invited 3,000 people, mostly disadvantaged people and multicultural families, to this free concert.

The event is expected to help revive the live music market in the country, which has been interrupted for nearly two years due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Fifteen K-pop groups will be in attendance, including popular boy bands NCT Dream and Pentagon, girl bands ITZY, Brave Girls and aespa, Key from SHINee and rappers Simon Dominic and Loco. American pop star Kehlani will participate in the event remotely via video link.

For aespa, the group on the rise, whose hits are “Black Mamba”, “Next Level” and “Savage” the first live concert after their debut a year ago, in the midst of a pandemic.

There will also be a special performance combining elements of K-pop music, Korean traditional music and martial arts, as well as a non-verbal theater performance, according to the ministry.

Before the concert begins, visitors can enjoy various side events such as an exhibition on “hallyu” content and booths to experience Korean food, cosmetics and fashion.

The term “hallyu” refers to the worldwide popularity of Korean pop cultural content, such as K-pop, Korean series and movies.
