The Ministry of Culture (KM) invites applicants to apply for the Excellence in Culture Award by 22 October. Applicants for the award can be nominated by legal entities, state and local government institutions and non-governmental organizations, whose activities are related to the provision of cultural processes, as well as advisory councils of the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Culture informed.
The aim of presenting the award is to express the Latvian state’s recognition for outstanding international achievements in culture, which have made a significant contribution to popularizing Latvian cultural values, promoting a positive image of Latvia, raising Latvia’s prestige in the world and cultural value in Latvian society.
The Culture Excellence Award is open to natural and legal persons or associations of such persons whose individual or collective international achievement or achievement in one of the fields of culture (literature and literature, theater, cinema, visual arts, design, architecture, music, dance, cultural heritage). , as well as an inter-sector – interactions of several cultural sub-sectors or culture and other sectors) meet the following criteria:
- received an award in international and professionally prestigious competitions, festivals and other professional evaluation events in the field of culture;
- The performance of Latvian artists or collectives (guest performances, exhibitions, etc.) has gained a wide resonance abroad, promoted Latvia’s prestige in the world and awareness of cultural value in Latvian society;
- Outstanding performance on an international scale in Latvia has attracted wide international attention and created a resonance in the world, promoting cooperation and interaction between Latvian and foreign cultural spaces.
Applicants’ applications according to the award in the regulations will be evaluated by the National Council of Culture.
The awards, including 7,000 euros after taxes, will be received by each of the three outstanding people at a special award ceremony of Excellence in Culture, organized by the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the universities and other institutions under its responsibility.
About the prize
The Excellence in Culture Award was established in 2014, on the initiative of the Latvian Council of Creative Unions and with the support of the National Council of Culture. The first Culture Excellence Award Ceremony took place on 22 December 2014. In recent years, the award has been received by: Aleksandrs Antoņenko, Jānis Nords, Žanas Lipke Memorial, Signe Baumane, Iveta Apkalna, Andris Freibergs, Turaida Museum Reserve, Rasa and Raitis Šmiti, Andris Nelsons, Design Office “H2E”, Gidons Krēmers and the Chamber Alvis Hermanis, Latvian National Museum of Art, Rolands Kalniņš, Nora Ikstena, Imants Lancmanis, Elīna Garančas and Anna Laudere, Marina Rebeka, Gundega Laiviņa, platform “Latvian Literature”.
