In Ter Apel, from Monday, four road buses will be deployed to prevent the inconvenience of asylum seekers. This is a trial of the Ministry of Justice and Security, which also bears the costs.

Ter Apel residents are experiencing nuisance from asylum seekers from the claim center on the edge of the village. This includes, among other things, shoplifting in destruction. Asylum seekers also roam the village at night, he writes RTV North.

In many cases, the causes of disturbance are the so-called “citizens of security”, according to the broadcaster. These are asylum seekers who are unlikely to have a chance to obtain a residence permit because they come from a safe country.

‘On the road’

For now, the road carriages will work on weekdays and cycle around the country. “They have no special powers. They do not wear uniforms or truncheons. In reality they are ordinary citizens, but with a specific task,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Justice and Security. “Besides, they are On the road and address the causes of disturbance in a direct way “.

Road buses have already been deployed in various cities to keep young people in line. But the combination with asylum seekers is new, explains the spokesman: “It’s a process. We want to know if it works. If so, we will launch it in other places where asylum seekers are welcomed”.

The municipality is aware of the arrival of the road carriages, but does not want to answer the test. “This is a ministry thing,” a spokesperson said. Peter Erdman, president of the local shopkeepers association, says he appreciates the efforts of the street coaches: “We can use them well.”
