The minister wants to get involved in the National Environmental Vision of provinces and municipalities – De Daily Standaard

The environmental vision in the duties of regional politicians. But because the space shortage is increasing in the Netherlands, Minister Ollongren now wants to get involved in this problem. But is regional politics really waiting for the interference of the national government?

For almost two decades, municipalities have been in constant consultation with the province about the environmental vision. This has become a real regional affair. Now Minister Ollongren may want to change this. She wants the national government to get involved in the environmental vision of the provinces.

“After the major structural visions at the end of the last century, spatial planning has become a little too much decentralized. There is now a need again for direction from The Hague. ”

But is there a need for this? Doesn’t the Netherlands just have the Provincial Council for this? An organ that is often already forgotten by the average Dutch person, but it is precisely these States that determine the environmental vision. Perhaps it would be better if central government invests more in local government, so that they themselves can spend more time on this.

Ollongren wants to steer the environmental vision from the government, so that decisions can be made more easily at a local level.

“Each region must build more homes. Then do that in places that are easily accessible and where there is also work. Do not build solar meadows, but place solar panels on roofs as much as possible. Let’s build windmills at sea as much as possible. ”
