The Minister of the Interior hardens the tone. After two gunshot wounds in Nîmes (Gard), including a child, Gérald Darmanin went there. The tenant of Place Beauvau met privately with the family of little Fayed, 10, and spoke with the police, in particular the judicial police, and elected officials in the morning. From the Gard prefecture, he announced three proposals: the reinforcement of 15 officers from the Paris judicial police to help the Nîmes services, the arrival of a permanent CRS unit in the Gard department to “pound the points of deal”, and the creation in Nîmes of an inter-ministerial judicial investigation service on money laundering.
These new reinforcements aim to “put the national police back at the heart” of the Pissevin district, directly affected by its events. “24 hours a day, it must be the police who must be there, and not the dealers,” he recalled. Two CRS units, accompanied by the Raid, judicial police officers have already been deployed, according to the minister.
“They are right to ask for a firm answer”
Gérald Darmanin did not meet the inhabitants of this district. But he wanted to send them a message in a press briefing. “They are right to demand a firm response. And they will have it, assured Darmanin. I have the energy, like the police, to fight the gangrene of drugs. “He also announced that he had proposed to the mayor of the city, Jean-Paul Fournier (Les Républicains), to meet him in October.
Invited to the microphone of RTL this morning, the minister also considered that “drug use gives rise to trafficking”, which leads to settling of scores and shootings. Gérald Darmanin therefore strongly accused drug users. For him, they “are partly responsible for what is happening”. Before asserting that Fayed was “a collateral victim of drug use”. On the spot, he used almost the same words: “There is a responsibility for the parents, but also for the drug users. »
A suspect was arrested Thursday evening as part of the investigation into the death of the 18-year-old, the Nice prosecutor’s office said this morning. He was placed in police custody “in connection with the events that occurred on the night of August 23 to 24”, for “murder in an organized gang”, and “other offenses related to organized crime”, communicates the prosecutor Cécile Gensac, specifying that the person concerned “is only known to the police for a traffic offense”.
Prevent traffic from “thriving”
The Minister therefore announced new reinforcements today. The goal? “Restore calm in a neighborhood where you have to live with drug dealers”, prevent “trafficking from prospering as is the case in the Netherlands or Belgium”. But above all: “We must find the perpetrators of these dreadful crimes”. This morning on RMC and BFMTV, the new Minister for the City, Sabrina Agresti-Roubache, felt that the government should send “the Raid, continue to pound, we will prevent them from sleeping”.

“For a very long time, the state has turned a blind eye,” certified Darmanin this morning on RTL. Before adding: “We are motivated to return to its inhabitants the republican authority against the authority of the dealers”. These statements come after two deaths in the Pissevin district. A little over 48 hours after the death of a child mistakenly hit by shooters, an 18-year-old man was shot dead Thursday in Nîmes at a deal point in this area.
