The Minister of Health, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, affirmed the ministry’s interest in addressing the issue of the spread of stray animals, and that not confronting the phenomenon of stray dogs has great economic and social effects, indicating that the cases of barrenness recorded during the past years began to increase by an increase of 20% annually, and during the Corona period the percentage of barrenness decreased. This came during a meeting House of Representatives Local Administration Committee Today, to discuss the government’s plan regarding developing a vision to confront the spread of stray animals in most of the governorates of the Republic, in light of the strategy that was agreed upon with the government and some civil associations specialized in animal welfare.

The Minister of Health revealed the governorates most exposed to sterility, as the governorates of Cairo, Giza and Beheira are among the governorates most affected by stray animals, indicating that the cost of providing vaccines, which reached 146 million pounds in 2019 and reached 151 million in 2022, is likely to increase and may reach 500 million pounds.

He said that the ministry has expanded in centers and providing health services to confront the biting of harmful animals in all governorates, and pointed to the continuous and joint work with all the concerned ministries such as the Ministry of Local Development and the Ministry of the Interior, as we deal with infection, after biting.

The Local Administration Committee in the House of Representatives had submitted a report on the spread of stray animals, especially dogs, throughout the Republic, and how to confront them, within the framework of animal welfare.

In another context, the House of Representatives will continue to hold its parliamentary sessions, starting next Sunday, to discuss a number of parliamentary reports. The Council will also devote its session next Tuesday to discuss more than 100 requests for briefing and parliamentary questions addressed to the Minister of Irrigation in a number of important files, including the construction of walls and gates on the Corniche. And requests for briefing on the government’s policy in raising citizens’ awareness towards rationalizing water use and protecting the sides of the Nile River, raising the rental value of irrigation lands and properties, and facilitating the procedures for ceding those lands for public benefit projects, as well as the government’s policy regarding setting an appropriate price for the use of water resources and irrigation properties.
