Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, received, on Sunday evening, the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Egypt, Jeremy Hopkins, and his accompanying delegation, at the general office of the ministry.
The minister commended UNICEF’s role in Egypt and its efforts to support the services provided by the ministry, commending the fruitful cooperation between the two sides over the past period in programs aimed at promoting maternal and child health in Egypt.
Dr Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, said the minister discussed cooperation with UNICEF in technical support for the development of policies, strategies and implementation plans for the child health programs provided. through primary care facilities.
Abdel Ghaffar added that the meeting covered the modalities of cooperation for the implementation of the strategy of the ministry, on the initiative of the President of the Republic, “a dignified life”, as well as the application of the global health system, providing technical and technological information. support for plans for the development of medical facilities, as well as the implementation of training programs for human cadres, to ensure the provision of medically effective and high-quality services.
Abdel Ghaffar added that the minister discussed cooperation in support of the national strategy for food and nutrition, as well as support programs to improve health indicators for children, adding that the minister stressed the importance of cooperation with UNICEF in the field of school nutrition and benefits from the results of the President’s initiative for the early diagnosis and treatment of diseases of obesity, anemia and dwarfism for school students, in setting the standards of the meal according to the standards and specifications for food safety.
Abdel Ghaffar stressed that the minister stressed the need to intensify health awareness campaigns aimed at familiarizing families with the various nutrients that should be included in their children’s meals and ways to prevent the diseases of malnutrition, which helps instill the foundations of a healthy lifestyle across all segments of society, as well as intensifying training programs for primary health care unit and center workers to raise awareness of healthy eating.
Abdul Ghaffar added that the meeting discussed continuing cooperation with UNICEF in providing basic vaccinations for children, within vaccination programs approved by the Ministry of Health and Population, commending the organization’s efforts to support polio vaccination campaigns.
