The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rafila, participated, on Tuesday, in the meeting of the formal Ministerial Council “Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Protection” (EPSCO), an event held in Brussels.
On the agenda of the Ministers of Health from the European space, there were topics of interest, such as the European Union Strategy for Global Health, coordination and collaboration post COVID-19, but also the lack of medicines faced by the countries of the European Union.
“Access to medicines is one of the main components of ensuring access to health, and the limitations faced by all EU states recently for certain categories of pharmaceutical products were not due to the lack of production capacity in the European Union, but to the lack of raw materials that are mostly still sourced from China and India. Romania supports the initiatives that can ensure the independence, from this point of view, of the EU member states and also supports the collaboration in order to produce the substances that are the basis for the manufacture of generic medicines”, said Minister Rafila.
During today’s session, the Minister of Health stated that the emergence and re-emergence of communicable diseases, antimicrobial resistance but also other issues related to non-communicable diseases, for example, cancer, must be correlated with the global strategies promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO).
All this is possible if they are correlated with solving the problem of qualified human resources in Health. Considering the fact that both the European Union and the European region of the World Health Organization are facing problems from this point of view, next week the high-level meeting on this topic of the 53 member states of WHO Europe will be organized in Bucharest .
