Retno explained that during the negotiation process, negotiator-level discussions sometimes stagnated. The negotiator then gives the mandate to a higher party.

“Therefore, from 10 to 14, I communicated a lot with the foreign ministers so that we could come to an agreement,” Retno said.

Retno said the tough discussions weren’t just about the war in Ukraine. However, according to Retno, the discussion of many other points in the declaration were also not easy to agree.

“If we said earlier that the statement or the paragraph concerning geopolitical issues or to be precise Ukraine is difficult, it doesn’t mean that the other paragraphs are easy. finished sooner or later,” added Retno.

Amidst these conditions, Retno said that Indonesia has benefited because it has gained the trust of all countries. The doubts of a number of parties regarding the implementation of the declaration of the G20 Summit in Bali have been dispelled.

“So the president also said that everyone was pessimistic at first, no one was sure that a statement could be made and thank God Indonesia was able to make it happen,” Retno added.
