The Minister of Education and Sports is committed to inclusive sport in the LGTBI + collective

The Ministry of Education and Sports will train physical education teachers and sports technicians in the tools designed to promote the development of inclusive sport with LGBTI + groups so that safe spaces are created where they can participate in equality and freedom. The training activity, organized by the Andalusian Sports Institute (IAD), will be held tomorrow online with more than 140 registered students.

The workshop, from the IAD 2021 Continuing Training program, aims to provide Physical Education teachers and sports technical staff with the knowledge and tools necessary to create inclusive practice spaces where LGTBI + people have a place. In addition, it wants to raise awareness of the negative situations experienced by the group and stimulate both reflection and action towards the inclusion of these people.

With this activity, the Ministry of Education and Sports wishes to provide specific training on the needs and frequent problems that these people experience in the field of sports and physical education, and provide resources for the design of measures and the development of inclusive good practices.

During the seminar, doctors and university professors of Physical Education, as well as those responsible for entities that fight against homophobia in sport, will expose the difficulties that LGTBIQ + people find to participate in physical activities, as well as in physical education classes, depriving them in this way of the physical and psychosocial benefits that they can obtain with their practice.

Jesus Tomillero Benavente, the first professional soccer referee in Spain and Europe to publicly declare his homosexuality in 2015, will offer three lectures on homophobia in soccer, inclusion in sport, and finally on athletes who have made their sexual condition public.

The professor in Sports Sciences and Physical Activity at the University of La Rioja and also president of the LGTB + Samarucs Sports Club, Javier Gil Quintana, will talk about the legislative framework in this matter and will present some experiences of LGTBI + people and intersex athletes .

The doctor and professor in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences at the University of Valencia, Sofía Pereira García, will focus her intervention on the situation and experiences of the LGTBI + collective in physical education. Finally, Elena López Cañada, a university professor, will talk about the action protocols to be applied in the teaching field to favor inclusion in sports activities. It will also present a guide to inclusive “trans” good practices and “queer” pedagogical practices.

This activity aims to raise awareness and sensitize Physical Education teachers, in the school environment, and sports technicians about the need to create safe environments for people LGTBIG + that they can participate equally and with freedom for the development of their gender identities and sexuality.
