“We advocate that it should be prohibited to import any books from Russia, not only those published in Russian,” said Tkachenko.
However, he believes that the publication of books in Russian should not be restricted in Ukraine itself, because the Ukrainian constitution guarantees the right to freedom of speech.
According to the minister, the Security Service of Ukraine should deal with the compilation of “black lists” of prohibited information, and the criteria should be the same for books, cinema and music.
Kyiv bookseller Oleksandr Drobin, however, believes that a complete ban on Russian books would be too radical a step.
“We shouldn’t confuse Russian fascism with Russian culture. Should we really collect all these books in a pile and burn them in the street?” he asks the “AFP” news agency.

Putin claimed that NATO was going to use Ukraine as a springboard for aggression against Russia, although there was no evidence for these claims.
