A few weeks after the suspension of the social network of the blue bird in Nigeria, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed wanted to warn those who circumvent this measure by using VPN. The Nigerian official has let his compatriots know that they are exposing their personal data including sensitive information on bank accounts. This was an opportunity for the Minister to once again defend this measure which was taken by the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He calls on Nigerians to create their own platform

The latter had already passed before lawmakers during an investigative hearing. He also said that the ban on Twitter in Nigeria should be an opportunity for some Nigerians to hatch their genius. For him, it is an opportunity to “Resourceful Nigerians are also looking at how they can have an app that can replace Twitter and other social media platforms”. “The decision taken in the country… does not violate Human Rights”

The platform had indeed censored a publication by President Buhari. “The decision taken in the country is not a violation of human rights, and does not contradict the Nigerian constitution, nor the African Convention on Human and Peoples’ Rights”, had justified the Nigerian government in a statement addressed to the Court of the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS).
