The mining limiter of the new GeForce RTX 3000 has been half broken

For some time, it has been rumored that closed mining communities have already known a way to circumvent Nvidia’s restrictive performance in the extraction of the cryptocurrency Ethereum. Whether this is true has not yet been clear, but at present it can be said that at least it could have been true.

The NBMiner mining software in version 39.0 came with a novelty that allows you to easily achieve ~ 70% of the mining performance of the original models. Which is not a complete removal of the limit, but a substantial improvement. The hack allows you to set a specific setpoint to which the limiter is to be adjusted (ie more than 70%), but at higher values, the risk of the so-called lock state increases, in which there is a drop in performance. Values over 70% are more suitable for experimentation.

  • GeForce 3060 Ti LHR: ~ 40 MH / s
  • GeForce 3070 Ti LHR: ~ 50 MH / s
  • GeForce 3080 Ti LHR: ~ 65 MH / s

Some users are concerned that the current trend of improving the availability and falling prices of graphics hardware will stop or reverse this innovation. Others do not share these concerns and point out that miners with LHR cards have switched to cryptocurrencies (other than Ethereum) whose mining is not limited, so this hack will not affect the market situation.
