The number of deaths in the country crossed the sad mark of 3,500 on Saturday while more than 56,700 people have contracted COVID-19 since the start of this health crisis.
Ontario contributed to that number on Saturday by reporting 511 new cases, including 55 more deaths. The total toll is 17,119 cases while 1,176 have died. Some 11,390 people were cured, a rate of 66.5%.
The most populous province in Canada, Ontario has increased its test rate in the past few weeks with 16,305 people evaluated in 24 hours for a total of 310,359 tests.
In Quebec, the main focus in the country, the most recent assessment indicates that 2,136 people have died from the coronavirus since the start of the epidemic and a total of 29,656 confirmed cases. Authorities reported only 114 new deaths and 1,008 additional cases on Saturday alone.
The situation is different elsewhere in Canada. In New Brunswick, there has been no new case for two weeks. In Newfoundland and Labrador, no new cases were reported on Saturday.

The 118 people who contracted the new coronavirus in New Brunswick have all recovered, public health officials in the province said on Saturday.
In addition to not having had any new cases for two weeks, this eastern Canadian maritime province continues to show positive signs.
“Two weeks have passed since the confirmation of the last case, and this is an important milestone,” said Dr. Jennifer Russell of public health. “But I cannot stress enough how important it is to continue to follow physical distancing measures, to wear a mask and to stay at home as much as possible.”
New Brunswick has lifted several restrictions related to outdoor activities such as golfing, fishing and gardening. In addition, members of a household are allowed to spend time with only one other household.
“We know people are looking forward to spending time with their loved ones, and we are glad we were able to ease the restrictions. However, people must not abuse this less restrictive phase, “said Prime Minister Blaine Higgs on Saturday.
“We encourage people to enjoy the beautiful outdoor spaces of our province safely, as long as they stay within two meters of each other,” he added.
