The Mexican soccer league will resume with the teams eliminated from the Leagues Cup

Mexico City, Aug 12 (EFE).- The Mexican soccer league announced Monday that it will resume the 2024 Apertura tournament with six of its teams that were eliminated in the Leagues Cup, in which they face MLS clubs.

In a press release, the competition reported that, as agreed last year, when the first edition of the Leagues Cup was held with the participation of all MLS and Mexican league teams, three matches will be brought forward starting this Friday to “free up the calendar, avoiding saturation and allowing eliminated clubs to maintain their competitive pace.”

The teams that will be in action will be Puebla, Rayados del Monterrey, Tijuana, Santos Laguna, San Luis and Gallos Blancos del Querétaro, all of which were eliminated from the competition, which is in its round of 16.

This Friday, Monterrey will visit Puebla, after which the other two games will take place on Sunday when Tijuana will host Santos Laguna and San Luis del Querétaro.

The Mexican league stopped its activity on July 21, at the end of the fourth matchday, so that all its teams could face the Leagues Cup, which has been played in the United States and Canada, where the MLS teams are from.

At the time of the break, Cruz Azul, which will challenge Mazatlán FC in the round of 16 of the Leagues Cup on Tuesday, was the leader of the standings with 10 points.
