CRITICISM – After twenty-two years of absence internationally, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra has just performed in Paris. An effective art of seduction.
There are two ways of reporting on the two exceptional concerts just given by the Met Orchestra, in other words the Orchestra of the Metropolitan Opera of New York, at the Philharmonie de Paris, under the baton of its musical director, Yannick Nézet-Séguin. . Talking about the atmosphere, all the more electric since it had been twenty-two years since the Met had travelled.
Hence the incredible fervor, palpable in the fact that the applause welcoming the arrival of the artists was already that which we generally hear at the end! We can see the excitement of novelty, but also this fluid that the Quebec conductor is able to transmit to an audience and an orchestra. It’s a rare quality, the price to pay being a very American side, with these embraces and declarations of love always bordering on “too much”.
Glamour et technicolor
So much for the atmosphere, already festive before the slightest note has been played. But there is also… the music! First observation: the Met Orchestra is a damn fine machine…
