This Wednesday, January 11, 2023, Dijon Métropole is launching the free system “My health is in the box” for seniors with disabilities or loss of autonomy. To be put in the fridge, the objective is to provide the necessary information on the senior to save time in the event of emergency intervention.
“We will save important minutes thanks to this device.” Françoise Tenenbaum, Vice-President of Dijon Métropole and regional advisor in charge of health, is delighted with the launch of this new project, this Wednesday, January 11, 2023.
A small red box, free, will sit in the fridges of seniors with loss of autonomy or with disabilities in Dijon and its metropolis, with all the necessary health information.
This initiative, originating in Quebec in Canada, is increasingly widespread in France. “It’s a great idea“, emphasizes Françoise Tenenbaum. For several years, the municipality of Guérigny, in Nièvre, has offered this service free of charge to its inhabitants.
It is now the turn of the Dijon metropolis to launch this device. In this box”rouge flashy“, the emergency services will be able to find:
- A card with personal information with the identity of the person, but also his social security number or his allergies and his past hospitalizations;
- A sheet with the numbers of the people to contact.
The emergency services will be informed of the presence of this box, in the fridge, thanks to a sticker. This information is essential for the firefighters and the Samu so that they can save crucial seconds for the potential victim. “They are delighted with this project“, adds the regional councilor in charge of health.
18,000 euros in subsidies, from the National Solidarity Fund for Autonomy (CNSA), were necessary to finance the 3000 red boxes. If necessary, the metropolis will not hesitate to produce additional boxes to cover the entire population concerned.
A study will be conducted for almost a year to find out the effectiveness of the first version of this red box. “The evaluation can give us the keys to the updates to be made in order to improve this service.“, testifies Françoise Tenenbaum. In Dijon, nearly 15,000 people are affected by this system.
