the Métropole de Lyon joins forces with the Water Agency to conserve water by 2024

To participate in the conservation of water resources, the metropolis of Lyon (Rhône) has signed a commitment contract with the Water Agency.

The metropolis of Lyon and the Rhône-Mediterranean-Corsica water agency will invest 100 million euros in the conservation of water resources. A commitment contract was signed on September 5, 2022 by these two entities, along with around twenty partners. Established over three years, the initiative aims to restore aquatic environments and wetlands, restore the quality of water resources and restore a more natural cycle.

The project brings together more than one hundred actions to be carried out by 2024. For its part, the metropolis of Lyon plans to carry out several operations. As for the restoration of aquatic environments, it will carry out a dozen projects, including the renaturation of the Mouche stream. Also part of the program are the restoration of the ponds of the Lacroix Laval estate in Marcy-l’Étoile and of the Serre and Planches streams.

To preserve water quality, the community will undertake about thirty projects, including the repair of faulty sewage systems. Finally, the waterproofing plan will include the development of vegetated strips and the laying of porous layers on the new roads in Lyon.
