Over the next few days, varying weather is reported across the country, but according to the meteorologists, you can get a sense of spring in the south of the country at the end of the week.
The powerful storm in northern Norway will continue on Thursday, but it will subside before the weekend. At the same time, the low pressure in the north has set up a mild air flow coming from more southerly latitudes, which ensures relatively high temperatures during the weekends across the country.
– There will be temporarily cooler weather towards the weekend in the north of the country. Then there will be sleet and precipitation along the entire coast of the country, from Lindesnes in the south to Nordkapp in the north, meteorologist on duty Martin Granerød at the Meteorological Institute told NTB.
Østafjells will lie in the lee of this rainfall, and it will mostly be dry weather in the interior of southern and eastern Norway.
– The sun can also shine through here, and in the south of the country it will probably be a few plus degrees in the days leading up to the weekend.
In the mountains in southern Norway, snow is expected towards the weekend due to high winds and periods of snow. This will result in challenging driving conditions with poor visibility, reports Granerød.
Snow in the highlands
On Friday, there will be another low pressure, which will spread over the whole country. This leads to lower temperatures in the morning and daytime on Friday, before the cool weather eases towards the end of Friday.
– Many areas around Møre and Romsdal, Trøndelag and further north will probably experience thunderstorms with rain and sleet in the lowlands on Friday. In the mountains in southern Norway, there will be snow showers and fairly strong winds, which will probably lead to snow drifts, says Granerød.
Those who stay in the interior and the lowlands in the southern part of the country, on the other hand, will have a cloudy Friday in daylight, before the rain comes after dark.
– In the inland areas, it will mostly be dry weather throughout Friday, before there will be precipitation in the form of rain and sleet in the evening in the lowlands and as snow higher up, explains Granerød.
Spring temperatures are coming soon
On Saturday, there will gradually be less wind and less precipitation in the south of the country, and there will be a milder type of weather which means that temperatures will gradually rise to between six and eight degrees in many places in southern Norway and in western Norway.
– Unfortunately, the rainfall will probably continue in Western Norway, while it will decrease in Eastern and Southern Norway, which lie in the lee of this rainfall. Further north, there will be less snow showers and slightly calmer wind conditions, but still temperatures that are slightly higher than in the south of the country, around zero degrees.
On the last day of the week, and the first of next week, there will be a long-awaited taste of spring, the meteorologist warns.
– Sunday is probably the highlight of the week weather-wise for those in the south of the country. Then the scale can creep up to ten degrees. The cloud cover will be high, and there will also be good opportunities for sunshine, says Granerød.
In Western Norway, there will also be relatively high temperatures considering the time of year we are in, but the weather will probably be more characterized by clouds and rain.
– For Northern Norway, the low pressure will unfortunately affect the entire weekend. It will go from snow showers to longer periods of rain and sleet during Sunday in outer regions, while it will continue as snow showers in inner regions, says the meteorologist.
