Strong winds, falling temperatures, rain, sleet and snow. This is how the meteorologist sums up the weather forecast for southern and eastern Norway in the coming days.
A strong low pressure in the Norwegian Sea is on its way over northern parts of Denmark, in the direction of Sweden and the Baltic Sea.
– It causes strong winds from the northeast of Sørlandet, with a light to stiff gale along the coast. For Eastern Norway, this gives precipitation. In Oslo, it has already rained, and it is gradually spreading north, meteorologist at StormGeo, Roar Inge Hansen tells TV 2.
In addition, temperatures seem to fall to around three to four degrees along the southern coast. With that, there will also be opportunities for sleet and snow in fairly low areas.
– In fact, it can snow all the way down to 300 to 500 meters. So people should be a little careful if you are going out and driving, because it may actually snow in the areas in these areas, warns the meteorologist.
In higher-lying areas, there may be 10-15 centimeters of fresh snow.
– Cold for the season
Fortunately, the low pressure seems to recede on Thursday, and both Thursday and Friday can give periods of nice weather and calm wind conditions, but with the risk of local rain showers.
– It will still be a cold weather type, even though the temperature rises to 10-12 degrees during the afternoon on Thursday. It is cold for the season, and this weather situation continues towards the weekend.
Late Saturday, a new low pressure is expected towards Eastern Norway, which gives precipitation on Sunday.
– But it is possible to enjoy the sun on Thursday, Friday and early Saturday, sums up meteorologist Hansen.
Western Norway with the highest temperatures
When it comes to Western Norway south of Stadt, it will mostly be pleasant weather on Thursday, with the exception of a little scattered rain from Stavanger and south.
– It will be glistening with sun in Western Norway, and around 12-13 degrees, which is the area with the highest temperatures on Wednesday.
On Thursday and Friday, local rain showers are expected in the region, but also periods of sunshine. Late Saturday it turns to rain and cooler weather.
In Møre og Romsdal and north towards Nordland, there will be mostly stay-up weather on Wednesday and Thursday, while on Friday there will be an increasing risk of precipitation, as well as cooler weather.
– But it will not be too bad, that is, says the meteorologist.
– Deterioration towards the weekend for Troms
In Finnmark, a little scattered snow is expected on Wednesday, and in eastern Finnmark the snow showers seem to persist beyond Thursday.
– But on the west side of Finnmark the cloud cover cracks open, and it looks like it will be quite nice weather on Wednesday and Thursday. Both stay and little clouds, but it will be cool. Around 5-6 degrees, and maybe down to 0 to minus three degrees in East Finnmark.
Late Friday and early Saturday, a small change in weather is expected in Troms. Then the snow showers from Finnmark will spread into Troms, and perhaps also in northern parts of Nordland.
– So there may be a deterioration into the weekend for that area, says meteorologist Hansen.
