It is mid-April, but still really cool throughout Norway. Many people long enough for the trees to have buds and to be able to enjoy a cup of coffee in the sun without a sweater.
– It may be easy to forget, but it was a week in March where it was very hot. Then it was 15 degrees in several places in southern Norway, which is unusual for that month to be, says on-duty meteorologist Olav Krogsæther in Storm Geo.
The warmest was at Landvik near Grimstad, where the degree showed a full 18.5 degrees on March 24. But after that week, it came to an abrupt end.
– After that it got very cold, says the meteorologist.
Fortunately, he has good news for large parts of Norway as early as Thursday.

– Unusually cold
Krogsæther says that a colleague of his has compared the temperatures in April in Bergen from the year 2000 until this year.
– Only twice before has it been as cold as this year’s April since the year 2000. And that applies not only to Bergen, but probably large parts of southern Norway. It has been much cooler than normal until now in April, he says.
Fortunately, the trend is set to reverse as early as Thursday.
– Now it will be warmer air ahead. As early as Thursday, it could be 15 degrees in the inner parts of Sogn og Fjordane, says Krogsæther.
In Eastern Norway, it is cold and gray on Wednesday, but towards the weekend, the meteorologist promises improvement there as well.
– It will be milder over the rest of Easter also in Eastern Norway, and it could be up to 14 degrees, he says.

All of southern Norway
Although Krogsæther believes it takes a lot to beat the 18.5 degrees that were measured in March, he believes large parts of southern Norway can prepare for 15 degrees the coming Easter weekend.
– Is there a place that excels as particularly hot in the next few days?
– I do not really want to highlight one place, because the whole of southern Norway gets warmer temperatures. Both Western Norway and Eastern Norway get comfortable temperatures during the day, says Krogsæther.
According to the meteorologist, it will still take a while before it gets milder even at night.
– It can actually be night frost even if it reaches 15 degrees during the day. This is especially true in inland areas and not the coast, says Krogsæther.
He points out that both Gudbrandsdalen and Østerdalen must expect night frost.

Seeing the start of spring
Farthest south in northern Norway, Helgeland and the southern parts of Nordland will also have nice and milder weather. For residents further north, the meteorologist is not as optimistic.
– Lofoten and the north unfortunately do not get as good weather. There will be onshore winds from the sea and some turns and snow showers on the coast of Troms and Finnmark, he says.
In any case, the meteorologist envisages that the mild temperatures that come to southern Norway will become a lasting trend.
– Now it turns yes, so then we can say that we see the beginning of spring, says Krogsæther.
