After exactly 16 years, the two world footballers Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are not in the quarter-finals of the premier class. This is the end of an era. It’s time for Haaland and Mbappé. Will the two youngsters also shape a glorious era?
Both names have shaped the world of football for almost 20 years and are now “almost” at the end of their careers. In view of the many records, the premier class will be associated with Cristiano Ronaldo (134 CL goals) and Lionel Messi (119 CL goals) for decades. For the first time in 16 years, however, both great football artists are not in the quarter-finals of the prestigious Tier 1 Cup. This is a novelty and a turning point at the same time. This is the end of a much acclaimed era. Juventus Turin and Ronaldo were eliminated by Porto, while the Catalans and Messi were unable to knock out Paris this time. Now the world is experiencing the talents Erling Haaland (20) and Kylian Mbappé (23). Both youngsters are still at the beginning of their careers. But the Frenchman has already achieved one thing more than the two eternal artists: he is already world champion but not yet a Champions League winner. The next decade in professional football is likely to be gloomy without Messi and Ronaldo.
