The Hospital of the Merciful Brothers in Brno is evacuating more patients. They will be moved to regional hospitals, said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS). The municipal facility is located in a flood zone near the Svratka, whose water level is rising. According to current predictions, it should not spill out of the trough, but the water rises through the sewers into the basement, where the electricity source is, added governor Jan Grolich (KDU-ČSL).

The rivers Svratka and Svitava are at the second level of flood activity in Brno. “We are therefore taking preventive measures. The svratka should not spill out of the trough, it is more complicated with Svitava. However, I do not expect that the worst-case scenario, i.e. the evacuation of people, will come true. But if it were to happen, we are ready, the capacities are at the exhibition grounds,” said Vaňková.
Increased river levels also threaten the Military Hospital in Brno and the Hospital in Břeclav. According to Grolich, standard preventive measures are enough for now and operations should not be interrupted.
For example, the Trauma Hospital prepared for the evacuation of patients from other hospitals. She freed up 35 beds and summoned ten doctors and 25 nurses. If necessary, it can set aside another 35 beds on Saturdays.
