In December, Daimler separated the Daimler Truck company from its organizational structure and listed it on the stock exchange. The renaming of the rest of the group is intended to underline the focus on the prestigious business with premium cars and vans.
The Mercedes-Benz brand was established in 1926 after the merger of Carl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler. Both were automotive pioneers and heralded the beginning of the automotive age.
According to Mercedes, with the renaming, the stock exchange symbol under which the company’s shares are traded will also change. The current “DAI” will become the “MBG”. The shareholders will not be affected by the change, the company remains part of the German DAX stock index.
