Camping and nature trips in general became a hugely popular pastime during the covid-19 crisis. This is associated, among other things, with the growing demand for motorhomes, but also for standard supplies adapted for overnight stays or short-term housing.

An example is the German Mercedes, which as a motorhome offers both its larger V-Class van and, more recently, the smaller Citan utility vehicle, which was recently introduced in a new version.
–
They worked in cooperation with the Swiss company Sortimo, which focuses on removable components for camping, to turn the van into a car for camping in Mercedes. The car received a roof tent and a multifunctional box, including a kitchen unit and the possibility of additional bedding.
–
The kitchen system works on the principle of drawers and offers a sink, two gas cookers and a drawer with equipment and accessories. On request, Mercedes will also add a cooling box for food. Above the line there is a bed part, which will offer space for sleeping with dimensions of 2020 to 1510 millimeters. When folded, it is still possible to use the Citan with the rear seats, which does not restrict the crew in normal travel.

The roof tent is attached to carriers and its position is said to take only a few minutes. This will create a place to sleep, which can accommodate two more people and they will have a bed measuring 2400 by 1400 mm. The tent is waterproof, has insect screens on the windows and is accessed by an aluminum ladder through a roofed hall.
–
In addition to this basic equipment, the Citan residential can be supplemented with a number of other features, such as solar panels and a charging source. Mercedes will also offer components from VanEssa, which will offer practically very similar functions outside the tent within the rear drawer box and bed adjustment.
