The current, relatively new generation of Mercedes-Benz C-Class is powered exclusively by four-cylinder engines. This means, as we have known for a long time, that the V8 top version of the AMG C 63 will be ordered and that it will be replaced by a plug-in hybrid device.
–
The British website Autocar now brings the first reports on how powerful this powertrain should be; although it refers directly to the carmaker, the weight of such information is slightly lower than if it came from Mercedes itself, but this magazine is usually highly informed.
–
The four-cylinder under the hood is to be an M139 unit, tuned to 476 horsepower. This would mean that this engine will be the absolute most powerful four-cylinder in series production. He is assisted by a 204k electric motor, located on the rear axle, which is to give a total of 679 horsepower. The combined torque value should be 750 Nm.
–
In addition to the plug-in hybrid system, the AMG C 63 is to receive a 48V mild hybrid system, which will take care of the smoothest possible engine start. The starter-generator is to be located at the gearbox and generate a hitherto unknown power.
–
One of the key advantages – of course, in addition to a certain range of electricity, given the battery’s unspecified size – is the reduction in weight above the front axle. The four-cylinder is almost half a meter lighter than the eight-cylinder in the current C-Class AMG. In addition, the center of gravity of the four-cylinder should be lower, which will improve agility.
–
The Mercedes-AMG C 63 is due to be unveiled this year. Then we will certainly learn much more about the propulsion system.
