The use of the pipeline should depend on the further actions of the Russian leadership in foreign policy, says Manfred Weber.
MEP, faction leader European People’s Party, Manfred Weber suggested using the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2 as a political tool against the Russian Federation. This is stated in an interview with the politician magazine The mirror, unveiled on Saturday 6 March.
“Since there is no way to stop construction with the German government, the EU should use the pipeline as a lever in foreign policy. Its use should be linked to reservations and depend on further actions by the Russian leadership, “Weber’s edition is quoted as saying.
The deputy noted that the SP-2 project is not in the interests of Europe, and urged the European Union not to be naive in relations with the Kremlin.
“If the Russian leadership does not return to partnership, then the pipeline will not be able to work in full force. Then it will be the responsibility of the Kremlin,” Weber suggested.
Earlier, 40 American congressmen appealed to US President Joe Biden with a demand impose sanctions on companies-participants of the project Nord Stream 2.
