“The memories of last year are still there. Already when we arrived here on Wednesday, I remembered everything,” said Bouzková. “It helps me prepare for the match and everything that led up to it. We’ll see how it goes. At least I’m happy for this match. I have a win after a long time and I will prepare for the next match,” she added.
In the match with Waltertová, she only complicated the end, when she led 5:1, but let her opponent reduce it to 5:4. In this state, she averted three more break points, but in the end she served out the match. “I started well and kept that level almost until the end. There were a few balls that went crazy and especially the first game, which I wanted to serve. She then also played a few points well and I was passive. But I was held up by a lot of service, especially in the decided,” she recounted. In the next match, she will face either Estonian Anett Kontaveit or Italian Lucrezia Stefanini.
The 24-year-old native of Prague succeeded after four defeats and was pleased to remain among the seeds for Wimbledon, thanks to which she had an easier draw. She had a mixed assessment of the last six months. “It was a lot of ups and downs. The most important thing now will be to find stability. I felt much better during the clay. The goal is to build on that. The main thing is how I feel. I have to believe that it will turn around and that I can ride the winning wave again. Marie Bouzková is happy about progressing to the 2nd round of Wimbledon.
Compared to last year, she no longer cooperates with coach Theodore Devoty, she is assisted by Antonín Bolardt in the position of coach. “Even before that, I worked with a coach for about seven years, so these changes are not ideal for me.
