The members of the Advisory Council were announced

The members of the Advisory Council were announced today by the government, following a decision taken by the Council of Ministers.

Its president will be the former Judge of the Supreme Court, George Aresti, and members Eleni Mouzala, Orestis Nikitas, Pieris Markou, George Dimosthenous, Platonas Stylianou, Maria Georgiou and Lenia Samuel.

As the Government Representative, Konstantinos Letympiotis, stated after the Cabinet meeting, “the Cabinet today decided on the selection and appointment of the following persons as members of the Advisory Council: Giorgos Aresti, former Judge of the Supreme Court of Cyprus, who will act as President of of the Advisory Council and its subcommittees, Eleni Mouzala, member of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, Orestis Nikitas, member of the Council of the Pan-Cypriot Bar Association, Pieris Markos, Council member of the Association of Chartered Accountants, Giorgos Dimosthenous, member of the Association of Rectors of Cypriot Universities, Platonas Stylianou, member of ETEK Steering Committee, Maria Georgiou, Member of the Board of the Cyprus Association of Human Resources Management and Lenia Samuel, former Director of the Ministry.

Also, the Representative mentioned, each Ministry will designate a representative, depending on the Organization and where this Organization falls under.

Mr. Letympiotis said that this decision was taken following a previous decision of the Council of Ministers on the establishment of the Advisory Council, which will initially prepare a list, after an open call for interest, for the 11 semi-governmental organizations in the first phase, and after evaluated, this function of the Advisory Council may possibly be either differentiated or expanded.

“One of the main axes of the governance program of the President of the Republic is that for the first time these appointments will be made through an open call for interest and through meritorious, transparent procedures”, the Spokesperson pointed out.

Asked whether, after the establishment of the Advisory Council, the President of the Republic will proceed with the appointment of members of the Boards of the parastatal organizations before the end of the term of the existing members, the Representative said that “it is something that is within the constitutional powers of the President of the Republic, the first meeting of the President with the Advisory Council will take place and the President of the Republic will evaluate his next moves, which will be announced”.
