The Mellac History Association held its general assembly on Saturday morning at the home of President Jean-François Juino. The association conducts investigations, gathers and shares the elements of the history of the town, including particular stories.
First published in June
“At the previous general assembly in September 2020, Franck Chapoulie announced his withdrawal from the presidency to fully fit in with his function as mayor. Without any new candidacy this Saturday, we are therefore keeping the organization in place, ”explains Jean-François Juino.
A first publication will be available in June, with in particular an analysis of civil status, customs and traditions, toponymy, extracts from the cartulary of the abbey of Sainte-Croix, the story of the soldier Jean-François Guillou and many others. ‘other subjects.
“Interview our alumni”
“Among the initiatives underway, the census and characterization of the historical and prehistoric heritage, the search for the ruins of the chapel located in the Moulin Blanc sector, the old trades of the territory, toponymy, the photographic archives of the places… Some projects , like the Bélon Atlas carried by Eau et Rivières, offer great opportunities for sharing with other research units. We also wish to interview our elders, whose history and knowledge often remain silent, out of modesty. One way to highlight the contribution of the discreet, who contribute or have helped to make Mellac’s heart beat. “
An appeal is launched to anyone who wants to express themselves or to identify a relative, a neighbor, an acquaintance, who could contribute to a better shared knowledge of the territory and its past.
