The Mein Real supermarket chain from Germany declares bankruptcy. The German grocery store chain employs nearly 5,000. employees – some of them may lose their jobs after the change of ownership. Supermarkets under the Real brand also operated in Poland for almost 20 years.

Previously, the former Real also operated in Poland for years – mainly in the western part of our country.

The German chain of food and industrial supermarkets Mein Real announced bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy proceedings will be carried out under the local government procedure, which will allow the company to maintain its business operations while conducting negotiations with competitors in order to take over the entire chain of stores.

The chain has changed owners several times in recent years. First there was Kaufland, then Edeka and finally Globus took over stores with the best locations.

Up to 5,000 people are struggling for jobs. people who work in 62 stores and at the headquarters in Mönchengladbach (a city in western Germany, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia).

However, the Internet is reassuring. The restructuring process is intended to preserve as many existing jobs as possible. – Wages and salaries should continue to be paid – reports the t-online.de portal.

Mein Real grocery stores can be found not only in Germany, but also in Turkey and Romania. In the years 1995-2014, supermarkets under the Real brand also operated in Poland. At that time, the chain belonged to the Metro AG trading concern and there were 54 stores in our country (data for 2012).

The discount store experienced not only a change of owners – currently it is the financial investor SCP, who sold the company in June 2022, only to buy it back in May this year due to the “critical economic situation” – serious management errors were also made.

– Despite significant operational improvements, incorrect operational management decisions could not be corrected quickly enough. We operate in a difficult macroeconomic environment. Filing for local government bankruptcy creates a new opportunity to continue business activity, says Bojan Luncer, general director of Real, quoted by wiwo.de.

Now the Mein Real supermarket chain has declared bankruptcy and will wait for a new owner.

These are not the only changes on the grocery supermarket market.

Polish SPAR is going up for sale, which will change the ownership of 212 stores throughout the country.

The group announced that actions have been taken to withdraw from its operations in Poland. In addition to grocery stores (both corporate and those run by independent retail operators), it also includes a company producing ready-made meals and two regional distribution centers in southern and central Poland.

At the beginning of September, it turned out that another German discount store – Aldi – was completely withdrawing from the market in Denmark. 114 supermarkets will be taken over by the Norwegian supermarket chain Rema 1000.

The Norwegians will receive not only over 100 stores, but also equipment: 45 tractor units and 42 trailers, as well as other real estate and distribution centers – according to the approved transaction. Employees are also to transfer to the new company – up to 900 people currently working in the German discount store.
