The Medium will support RTX and DLSS on PC, Ray Tracing on Xbox Series X.

Support will be available at launch later this month.

The Medium is Bloober Teams’ Next Horror Title Slated to Launch This Month on PC and Xbox Series X | S. Today, it was confirmed that the horror game set in 2 dimensions will support ray tracing and DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling). A new trailer shows them in action.

During Nvidia’s GeForce RTX: Game On showcase event at CES 2021 today, developer Bloober Team announced its partnership with Nvidia. This will see The Medium running Microsoft DirectX Raytracing and Nvidia DLSS technology, all of which will be available at launch. A short trailer, which you can watch below, shows these elements in action, allowing us to see dynamic shadows and beautiful reflections. The video shows a mix of lush and elegant levels with marble floors and lots of photo frames, and also dark and battered levels with sandy textures and puddles. Oh, and a creepy mask.

Since this was all focused on Nvidia, I wondered if this included the console version of The Medium. Speaking with a representative from Bloober Team, I was told that the game will “support ray tracing in XSX at launch.” The game was scheduled to launch last year in December for PC and Xbox Series X | Yes but it was delayed until January. According to the developer, The Medium would not be possible on next-gen consoles due to the dual reality system it uses, and Bloober Team has no plans to move it around. We’ve seen this system in action, and even more so after a 14-minute gameplay trailer was revealed last week.

The Medium has opened pre-orders for Steam, Epic Games and Xbox Series X | S with a 10% discount for orders placed before launch. Orders will also grant players access to Akira Yamaoka and Arkadiusz Reikowski’s soundtrack, as well as a digital art book. The game will be released on January 28, 2021.
