The median hospital project is caught in an area of severe turbulence

The heated exchanges between Sébastien David, mayor of Saint-Affrique, and Alain Fauconnier, his predecessor, made Christophe Saint-Pierre, former city councilor of Millau, react and the deputy Arnaud Viala.

Is the median hospital in danger? This is the question that has agitated South-Aveyron since the beginning of the week and the controversy following the vote in favor of the preamble of the South-Aveyron medical project by the supervisory committee of the Saint-Affrique hospital. Alain Fauconnier, former socialist mayor of Vilotte, has indeed strongly criticized his successor Les Républicains, Sébastien David, also chairman of this committee, for having acted “ the death of the median hospital and that of Saint-Affrique “.

30 kilometers away, Emmanuelle Gazel, PS mayor of Millau, did not register this deliberation with the supervisory board of the establishment of Puits-de-Calès. The first magistrate is awaiting the results of a study, which she requested, in order to know if the Millavian structure could serve as a common hospital. The councilor has always said that she would wait before deciding on this file. A posture and a silence, for a year and a half, which sow confusion and shake the agreement around a median hospital in Saint-Georges-de-Luzençon. An option validated in December 2019 by Agnès Buzyn, then Minister of Health and Solidarity, in a letter addressed to elected officials. “We had created a consensus between two cities from different sides and the government, while no protagonist was part of the presidential majority, vigorously reminds the Republican deputy Arnaud Viala. We had shown responsibility and a great force of self-sacrifice. No one could gain personal benefit from this arbitration. “

Olivier Véran confirms the State’s commitments

On the side of Christophe Saint-Pierre, former LR mayor of Millau, who co-signed the letter of response to Agnès Buzyn, fears are growing: “I am staying true to my commitments. I have very little news. I hope the discussions continue. At the time, the alignment of the planets was the right one: political, medical and geographic consensus. I am worried. . I wouldn’t want to go back, or even abandon the project. The hospital cannot be a subject of political politics. It is political in the sense of the general interest. “

Arnaud Viala who, since the municipal campaign, had rightly claimed to oppose “for any use for political purposes” of the median hospital, defends Sébastien David and takes over Alain Fauconnier: “In this preamble, there is nothing new. It is the continuity of the work carried out for several years and that Mr. Fauconnier has validated point by point. I regret this controversy. I am even angry.”

The parliamentarian also calls out to Emmanuelle Gazel: “The team, in Millau, questioned everything. We already know the conclusions of the study. There, it is belt and suspenders. No, the Puits-de-Calès cannot be the common hospital. In addition, this is not the wish of the territory. Ms. Gazel does not comment because she has surrounded herself with people opposed to all medical projects for South Aveyron. She will not be able to forever refrain from giving her notice. “

Certainly, all this procrastination wastes precious time.

And the threat of a withdrawal of the executive hangs over the heads of South Aveyron. “Let’s be clear, insists Arnaud Viala. We are entering the last year of the Macron five-year term. This commitment by Agnès Buzyn, which was confirmed to me by Olivier Véran, is only valid as long as this government is in place. There is an urgent need to get out of this deleterious climate. We owe it to our fellow citizens and to our caregivers. I appeal to everyone’s responsibility. We must move forward together. “
