Now law enforcement officers in Germany are checking the involvement of the GRU in the cyberattack on the deputies, writes Spiegel.
Members of the German parliament and some state parliaments were subjected to a cyberattack, which could have been carried out by Russian hackers. About this with reference to our own sources informs Spiegel on Friday, March 26th.
As the newspaper writes, the computers of at least seven members of the Bundestag (mainly representatives of the ruling coalition – the CDU / CSU bloc and the SPD party) and 31 deputies of the Landtags of Bremen and Hamburg – local legislative bodies in the lands of the Federal Republic of Germany – were subjected to a cyberattack.
Now law enforcement officers are checking what kind of data could have been stolen.
The publication also suggests that the attackers belonged to the Ghostwriters hacker group. They gained access to the computers of the deputies using phishing – sending emails from supposedly trustworthy senders.
Note that Ghostwriters are considered to be a hacker group specializing in releasing fake news on popular news sites or blogs that they manage to hack. It has existed at least since 2017; earlier its actions fueled anti-NATO sentiments in Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
Recall that earlier authorities in Germany underwent cyberattacks… Six German federal authorities were affected, but information may have been “compromised on four occasions.”
Also, the NSDC said that hackers from the Russian Federation attacked the document management system of government agencies Ukraine. Cyber attackers tried to download a program that controls a computer hidden on a remote location.
