As the union “Delfi” pointed out in the trade union, at the same time LIZDA has set several requirements for the Minister of Education and Science Šuplinskas. If the requirements are not met, the union will demand the resignation of Minister Ilga Šuplinskas.
LIZDA supports many reforms, both those initiated and new ones, but does not agree with low-quality and hasty reforms in education, which have a negative impact on teachers, the education sector and society as a whole. According to the trade unions, many changes in the sector are approved without financial coverage, without consultation with the social and cooperation partners.
The trade union criticizes the Ministry of Education and Science for not reimbursing teachers’ expenses for the implementation of distance learning. Also, the outrage of LIZDA members and teachers has been caused by the statement of JKP leader Jānis Bordāns to the media about the possibility to allow parents to decide whether to send a child to school during Covid – 19. Such public statements create even more tension in the daily work of teachers, emphasizes the trade union.
“Enough. The measure of patience has been exhausted. Educators are open to change, do more than they are required to do. the relevant reform, “stressed Inga Vanaga, the chairman of LIZDA.
“If the minister is not able to respect and support his industry, then he does not have to hold this position. The minister must stand up for his industry, it must be loved and supported,” the union chairwoman continued. “If there is no change in the principles of cooperation, if we are not heard, then LIZDA will demand something to change – and it will be the Minister of Education and Science.”
LIZDA has made a number of demands – Šuplinskas apologize to the industry; allocate resources for the implementation of reforms and coordinate them with the social and cooperation partners; to reimburse the costs of distance learning; as well as to introduce the improved workload and wages as early as September 1 next year.
LIZDA will send a letter to JKP and officials inviting them to participate in the extraordinary meeting of LIZDA council on November 12 and to provide answers to the requirements. If they are rejected, there will be no compromise and the LIZDA council will decide to demand the resignation of the Minister of Education and Science Šuplinskas, warns the trade union.
