The Mc Fit gym in Treviso reopens in a tensile structure, the wrath of others: “Unfair competition”

TREVISO. The tensile structure, which can be opened on the sides, has been in operation for about ten days, in the square adjacent to the gymnasium in via Vasari in Santa Maria del Sile. And when the weather allowed it, it has already started. During the day, until dinner. Like the other 19 open throughout Italy, the first in Milan.

Initiative of McFit, the global giant and leader of fitness in Europe, which is part of RSG Group GmbH. In Veneto, tents have also sprung up in Padua, Mestre, Vicenza, Bassano, Verona: training in safety, anti-Covid regulations, equipment 2 meters away, masks for travel, gels at each change of user for equipment, sanitization of parquet.

But the other gym owners, let’s put it this way, didn’t exactly like it. In the Mc Fit sector – two offices in Treviso, the other is in via Bastia – it has unrivaled users (4,500, 10 times the average of the others, with few exceptions), with a reputation that oscillates between Amazon and Ryan Air, by virtue of low cost and size policies.

And online, as in strictly closed gyms, anger skyrockets. “I state, nothing against Mc Fit, which has a firepower beyond the reach of all the others, but I wonder why it is not possible to guarantee others to open respecting the rules”, thunders Paolo Baggio, owner of De Ferrari at the DLF, «My ten large windows are not so different from the opening walls of the Mc Fit tent, because there is no equal conditions and rules for those who work in the same sector? Thus there is no more competition, which is a pillar of the free market. And someone will have to explain to me why it is possible to stay at 4 per table in a restaurant, and I, in hundreds and hundreds of square meters of gym, cannot even do a personalized “one to one” workout: absurd, inexplicable, inconceivable. And I repeat: unfair ».

Baggio has been in the sector for 36 years: “When I opened I think I was the third, in Treviso”, he continues, “we are in a context that certainly sees us little ones already suffering against the giants, who do not need further factors of benefit”.

Alessandro Esposito, owner of the Five Club of Corso del Popolo, goes down hard: “It’s a blow, this initiative bypasses the Dpcm, and poses serious competition problems, not to mention the ethical plan”, he declares, “Mc Fit can do it, others don’t. It is clear that in this way also in our sector small fish will be swallowed up by big fish, but a fair state should not make distinctions, protecting everyone, big and small “.

“The giants have unthinkable means for us, and can offer low cost rates, not to mention the latest offers, simply” Martian “for us. We have always tried to make it, however, in our small way, with our 300 members. But now there is a risk of differentiating the operators, we haven’t collected a euro for many months, and in the meantime the rents are running “.
