Rolin Cranoly, the mayor of Gagny (Seine-Saint-Denis), issued an order on January 20, 2021 to force internet operators to report the intervention of their technicians on the city’s fiber optic cabinets upstream.
In a statement, the town hall explains this decision because of the “lack of traceability of interventions, as well as the upsurge in damage to these cabinets located in public spaces’, very often by “subcontractors of the various operators”. These malfunctions sometimes cause network failures, while a large part of the inhabitants are teleworking, a health crisis obliging them.
The town hall explains having taken this decree after having negotiations with ARCEP, the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts, and the observation that it was in “inability”, “to force operators to ensure the proper management of these cabinets “. “In the event of non-compliance with this obligation, operators may be punished with a fine”.
The town hall sets up a telephone number and an email address on his site to allow technicians to declare their interventions.
