VACCINATION – This is an important announcement. As of September 13, New York will require that “all the workforce of the city” either vaccinated or undergo weekly tests, announced this Monday, July 26 bill de blasiothe mayor of the city, during a press conference.
The mayor clarified that it would be “much better” to get vaccinated than to resort to testing.
“This is our recovery. It’s about what we need to do for New York City. It’s about protecting people (…) to bring back jobs (…)”, added the mayor to the press.

Who will be the people affected? For example Bill de Blasio named “people who work in schools, law enforcement (NYPD), firefighters (FDNY) or even people who work “in offices”.
The month of September, a “crucial” period
According to him, the month of September will be a “crucial” period in the fight against Covid-19. “September is the time when employees return to work, it’s back to school time, it’s the return of vacationers,” he pleaded.
A few days earlier, Bill de Blasio had already announced that the thousands of employees of New York’s public hospitals should soon either be vaccinated against Covid or be tested every week.
“We are monitoring the Delta variant and its impact and it is time to introduce changes”, explained the mayor, Bill de Blasio, during a press briefing. “It’s a first step (…) If we don’t see the vaccination numbers increasing fast enough, we will consider other options,” he said. So what he did.
Measures already taken in San Francisco
These announcements come against a backdrop of growing controversy over the measures to be taken to increase the vaccination rate against the delta variant, which now represents 83% of American contaminations, according to the latest estimates.
Many health officials are pushing to make vaccination compulsory, at least for certain categories of the population. But several states led by Republicans have on the contrary adopted laws prohibiting coercive measures, especially in schools.
End of June, San Francisco City Hall had already made vaccination compulsory for all municipal employees. But she had conditioned this measure on full approval of the vaccines by the American drug authority, the FDA, not expected for several weeks.
Faced with the progression of the Delta variant, the city finally decided to require vaccination from September 15 for its most exposed employees.
