New York Mayor Eric Adams assured on Friday that he will send the necessary documents to end the corruption investigation that targeted him and his campaign team, and was launched several months ago.
“It takes a lot of control to defend yourself when you know you’ve done nothing wrong.
“What we do is to be as transparent as possible,” he assured this former police officer who was elected in November 2021 on a program to fight crime and crime.
The New York Times reported Thursday night that the 63-year-old Democratic adviser was summoned to appear by federal justice as part of this investigation for alleged corruption activities related to Turkey.
The investigation, which began nine months ago, is about allegations of illegal contributions to the Democratic campaign by construction companies linked to Ankara. Suspicion is particularly focused on the authorization Turkey received to build a large skyscraper opposite the UN headquarters in Manhattan, which houses the country’s mission to the United Nations and its consulate general.
In November, the federal police (FBI) on instructions from the Manhattan federal prosecutor’s office seized cell phones and electronic devices belonging to the mayor and searched the home of the candidate’s campaign finance director.
The elected official denies any wrongdoing. According to the New York Times, his lawyers conducted their own investigation and said they found no evidence of illegal activity. They sent their findings to the federal justice system with which they continue to cooperate.
