At the extraordinary session of Narva City Council, 19 out of 27 MPs supported the vote of no confidence in Mayor Katri Raigi, 4 MPs were absent from the session.
The leader of the Narva faction that initiated the vote of no confidence Alexey Yevgrafov according to him, the reason for this was Katri Raig’s inability to create substantive cooperation between the city administration and the city council, as well as the mayor’s incompetence in several issues. “Unfortunately, Katri Raik has not been able to organize effective cooperation between the legislative and executive city authorities. Documents from the city administration often come very late to the city council for processing.
In addition, there have been numerous cases where city council committees were forced to return projects for review, or the city government itself recalled them, thus acknowledging the unsatisfactory nature of its work. We reached a situation where there is complete chaos in the work of the city system,” said Jevgrafov.
Jevgrafov added that due to the unprofessional actions of the mayor and his team, the implementation of important projects for the city is being delayed. “This led to an increase in the cost of works and an increase in the city’s debt burden, which has increased 1.7 times in three years. The loan is paid for with taxpayers’ money, which means that the residents of Narva have to pay for the mayor’s mistakes,” Jevgrafov explained.
According to the chairman of the Narva faction, the management mistakes of the city government and the inability to create two-way communication with the residents created great tensions.
“City residents do not understand the mayor’s decisions. For example, when approving the reorganization of the network of educational institutions in the city, the opinions of school and kindergarten employees, boards of trustees, parents and students were ignored,” he said.
Jevgrafov emphasized that it is necessary to change the working style and methods of the city administration for the benefit of the residents of Narva. Who will be the new mayor will be revealed in the near future.
