The mayor of Mineralni Bani, Myumyun Iskender, is still in custody until the court pronounces on the merits.
Today, the court adjourned and ordered the hearing on the prosecutor’s request for permanent detention until October 3.
The purpose is to prepare a forensic medical examination of the mayor. And the complaint of Mineralni Bani people moved to the police.
The mayor’s lawyers described Myumyun Iskender’s detention after the 72-hour measure expired as illegal. They will file a complaint in court tonight. According to Mümün Mümün, the director of the “Alian for Rights and Freedom” list for Haskovo, there is a danger to Iskender’s life in custody.
He has several ailments – heart disease, diabetes and others to which he applied medical knowledge. The court appointed a forensic medical examination at the request of the defense, to be carried out by experts from the hospital of the Ministry of the Interior. This was precisely the reason why the court did not rule on the merits of the measure and adjourned the case until October 3rd. This happened after a court session that lasted over 3 and a half hours.
Earlier, the court gave the lawyers an hour to get to know some of the materials of the investigation against the mayor. They are a total of 6 boxes with 78 books.
The allegation is about an organized crime group. The mayor, his son, the city technician and the mayor’s daughter, who was released on bail, are accused of 3 different acts committed in the period 2013-2015 when them in for funding for subsidies to the state fund “Agriculture”.
More than 100 people from Mineralni Bani gathered this afternoon in the parking lot in front of the court in Haskovo, where Iskender’s measurement was monitored.
There was an increased police presence in the court area due to an expected protest in his defense. Those who gathered earlier said they did not come to protest, but to support the mayor.
