At the 10th Primary School in the area of Nea Zoi, the Mayor of Ioannina and head of the “Yiannena Nea Epochi” faction, Dimitris Papageorgiou, exercised his right to vote. Mr. Papageorgiou went to the polling station a little after noon and after he had earlier visited other polling stations departments. He discussed with the citizens who were waiting, with the members of the electoral commissions and with the judicial representatives. First he went to the ballot box for the municipal elections and then for the regional ones. In statements he made immediately afterwards he emphasized that today belongs to the citizens and expressed his optimism about the election result. “Today is the moment of the citizens. We talked last time. We contacted the citizens. We exchanged opinions. We listened to them and they listened to us. They decide on the future of the city. They choose a mayor and city council for the next five years. We are optimistic and believe that their decision will be to move Ioannina Forward. I want to take this opportunity to highlight the high level that was maintained throughout during the pre-election period and to which all factions contributed. It is a sample of political culture as well as political maturity. We now await the closing of the ballot box and the verdict of the citizens. We believe that they will trust us and we will continue our work,” he said.
