the mayor of Hayange condemned

On April 6, the mayor of Hayange, Fabien Engelmann, appeared before the Thionville criminal court for, in 2015, not having complied with the tendering procedure for the renewal of nine photocopiers intended for schools for an amount from 103 950 €. The first magistrate frontist had argued his inexperience, arguing that he was young elected “under media pressure” and that he was responding to “a request from the teaching staff”.

The public prosecutor then requested a three-month suspended prison sentence and a € 30,000 fine against the two defendants, the mayor and the beneficiary of the order. The decision taken under advisement and rendered Tuesday, May 11, condemns Fabien Engelmann to pay the sum of € 15,000, including 10,000 suspended: a sentence that the city council received with some relief. “It’s a good decision for me. I note the foresight of the judges in this case, ”he reacted. He also left little room for doubt about a possible follow-up, indicating that he “probably” would not appeal this decision.
