“Today, with the certainty of having fulfilled the duties that I acquired with my countrymen from Copey, I inform you with nostalgia and gratitude of my decision to resign from the position that I hold as Mayor, with the conviction that I gave everything for the well-being of my people of the haunted streets. This message is part of the statement to public opinion issued by the mayor of El Copey, Francisco Meza, announcing his decision to resign from the position for which he was elected in October 2019, by popular will with a total of 4,720 votes.
Meza Altamar also made it known, through a letter dated August 31, to the governor of Cesar, Andrés Felipe Meza, whom he thanked for the willingness of the departmental government towards the municipality in the execution of important projects, which in his opinion are transcendental for the history of the jurisdiction.
“To this day I can affirm that this social pact and longed for by the Copeyanos has been more than fulfilled; The tangible works are witnesses that we fulfilled our mission, all corners of El Copey are irradiated with progress and development, as was the purpose of my government,” the statement read.
He appreciated the opportunity that the town gave him to contribute to the development of the municipality, to which he demonstrated management capacity for years of dedication and commitment.
“To our municipality, which I swore to govern responsibly and boldly, you must be sure that I will soon be able to prove my innocence in all this legal framework that you all know, this for daring to break paradigms for the benefit of the people who elected me,” he assured. As will be recalled, Francisco Meza Altamar is in house arrest, after being accused of alleged irregularities in the execution of 14 contracts arranged for the provision of goods and services, for more than 4,068 million pesos.
