The mayor of Cuauhtémoc, Sandra Cuevas, accused the Mexico City Attorney General of having a political persecution against her, in which she is accused of the crimes of illegal deprivation of liberty, abuse of authority, robbery with violence and discrimination against two policemen from the capital.
His press team said in a statement that Cuevas denies being responsible for these behaviors “and assures that these accusations are a political persecution against him.” Along these lines, the official declared herself ready to legally defend herself against her.
Cuevas, who won the mayor’s office in June 2021 nominated by the Va por la CDMX coalition —formed by PAN, PRI and PRD—, affirmed that he will present a timeline on the events that occurred on February 11 at the demarcation facilities.
To do this, he promised to show video evidence to prove his innocence.
The case
The Mexico City prosecutor’s office announced on February 12 that it had opened an investigation against Cuevas, after two policemen from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) denounced her for possible illegal deprivation of liberty and assaults.
The capital institution reported this Thursday that formally requested a court hearing to charge the mayor.
In the statement released by his team, Cuevas pointed out that he asked for the investigation folder to find out what he is accused of.
“There is a lack of autonomy of the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office given the speed with which the investigation folder was integrated and presented to a judge in the North Prison, since it was done in an unusual record time of 11 days. natural when this type of investigation takes two to four months,” he said.
On his Twitter account, Cuevas directly blamed the head of the CDMX government, Claudia Sheinbaum, for acting against him.
.@Claudiashein I’m going to show you and your police officers that the accusations they make against me are false and a set-up. Enough of political persecution! https://t.co/jIylZSco2L
