The Attorney General’s Office suspended the mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, for four months, and suspended and disqualified the Secretary of Culture at the time, José Darwin Lenis Mejía, for 9 years, for alleged irregularities in the organization of the 2020 Cali Fair.
With just under a week left to hand over his position as mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina was suspended by the Attorney General’s Office for alleged irregularities in contracting.
The facts under investigation are related to the agreement signed between the administration and CorfeCali for the holding of the virtual Cali Fair in 2020, the cost of which exceeded 11 billion pesos.
According to the control body, the president could have omitted his control, surveillance and supervision functions over the contracting process.
In turn, the Public Ministry sanctioned with dismissal and disqualification for 9 years José Darwin Lenis, who to date held the position of Secretary of Culture of the city and who is currently in charge of the Education portfolio.
