Juan Soto began the season on a mission, expressing his desire to hit home runs in six specific stadiums so that he could boast of having hit home runs in each of the 30 current Major League parks.
That list is now complete, wrote mlb.com’s Bryan Hoch.
Soto hit a two-run quadruple off right-hander Bryan Woo in the Yankees’ 11-2 victory over the Mariners on Tuesday night at TMobile Park, the last stadium he had yet to conquer.
“It’s a great feeling for me; so many different stadiums, so many different dimensions,” Soto said. “I just want to get them all checked out. What a way to go into free agency, with all 30 parks checked out on my list.”
The Dominican star’s 40th homer of the season gave the Bronx Bombers a 6-1 lead in the fourth inning.
The Mules are inching closer to clinching the AL East. Baltimore’s 5-3 loss to San Francisco on Wednesday brought them a step closer to that goal. “We would definitely be excited, especially after the season we had last year, missing out on the postseason,” said captain Aaron Judge, who drove in four runs Tuesday and led the majors with 136. “That’s what we came here for this year, to make the playoffs and give ourselves a chance to go out and win a World Series.”
Soto’s blast was also the 200th home run for the star outfielder, who became the seventh-youngest player in major league history to reach that mark, at 25 years and 328 days old, Hoch said.
This season, Soto hit his first home runs at Progressive Field (April 13), Angel Stadium (May 28), Guaranteed Rate Field (Aug. 4, 13-14), Globe Life Field (Sept. 4) and now at T-Mobile Park. He also hit his first regular-season shot at Minute Maid Park (March 30).
In addition, Soto and Judge are now the third Yankee duo to hit 40 or more homers in the same season, joining Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig (1927, 1930, 1931) and Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris (1961).
With the mission of completing the feat of hitting a home run in each of the 30 stadiums accomplished, Soto said he is excited to spray champagne and celebrate the first step on the Bombers’ road to the postseason, understanding that the goal is to be the last team standing.
In the first duel in Seattle, the Yankees showed all their power: Jason Dominguez also homered and Luis Gil (14-6, 3.14) pitched five solid innings.
Brewers exceed expectations and win third division title in four years
These are not the same Brewers who have frequently appeared in the playoffs in recent years.
Milwaukee became the first major league team to clinch a division championship, winning the NL Central for the third time in the past four seasons. The Chicago Cubs fell at home to the Oakland Athletics 5-3, missing out on a chance to catch the Brewers in the division.
This marks the Brewers’ sixth postseason appearance in the past seven years, a remarkable achievement for a team that made the playoffs just a couple of times in a 35-season span from 1983-2017. But this path was a little different than the rest. While the Brewers, who celebrated with a 2-1 win over AL East-leading Philadelphia, have made a habit of exceeding expectations before each season, the odds were stacked against them more than usual this year. Craig Counsell, the franchise’s winningest manager, left for the Cubs.
2021 NL Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes has been traded to the Baltimore Orioles.
Neither these nor other adversities stopped them.
In Miami, Shohei Ohtani stole his 49th base in a Dodgers victory over the Marlins, 8-4. Also, Mets 10, Washington 0; Atlanta 7, Cincinnati 1; Cleveland 5, Minnesota 4 (10); Texas 2, Toronto 0; San Diego 4, Houston 0.
Juan José Arellano throws out the first pitch in a Major League game
Mazatlan businessman Juan José Arellano Hernández, president of the Board of Directors of Grupo ARHE and the Leones de Yucatán, threw out the first pitch in a Major League game between the San Diego Padres and the Houston Astros at Petco Park.
Major League Baseball celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, a time when MLB and its teams recognize the impact of the Latino community.
Since acquiring the Leones in 2013, Juan José Arellano and his brother Erick, the club’s executive president, have turned the team into one of the most competitive in the Mexican Baseball League. Under their leadership, the beasts have reached four King’s Series, winning the title in 2018 and 2022, and runner-up in 2019 and 2021.
In addition, Grupo ARHE, through its Pacific Baseball Academy, was key in the training of more than 50 baseball players who signed with Major League Baseball organizations.
