The sixth summit of the Three Seas regional co-operation initiative, hosted by Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, began at the National Palace of Culture. Sofia will bring together many heads of state, prime ministers, heads of international institutions and more than 400 businessmen on Thursday and Friday.
The event began shortly after 1:30 p.m., when President Rumen Radev arrived. He is to meet the presidents of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, of Estonia, Kersti Kalulaid, of Latvia, Egils Levits, of Poland, Andrzej Duda, of Slovenia, Borut Pahor. Among the guests are the Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković, the Deputy Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic Karel Havlicek and the Prime Minister of Slovakia Veronika Remišova, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria Peter Launski-Tiefenthal. Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, will also take part in the discussion. US President Joseph Biden is expected to deliver a video greeting. The guest of the initiative this year is the President of Greece Katerina Sakelaropoulou.
Rumen Radev will also welcome the presidents of Hungary, Janos Ader, Lithuania’s Gitanas Nauseda, Romania’s Klaus Johannes, and European Commission Executive Vice President Margrethe Vestager.
The official opening of the Business Forum will take place at 3 p.m. The participants will be greeted by the caretaker Minister of Economy Kiril Petkov.
The main objective of the Three Seas is to promote regional cooperation for transport, digital and energy connectivity and to achieve sustainable economic growth that leads to accelerated social and economic cohesion in Europe.
