The match Poland – England in el. World Cup 2022. Jacek Bąk: I would take the draw blind

The match against England at the PGE Narodowy will be the last match for “Biało-Czerwonych” during the September training camp. In the two previous games, coach Paulo Sousa’s side scored a total of six points, beating Albania 4-1 and San Marino 7-1. Now is the time for the most difficult challenge and the match with the leader of our group.

After five matches played so far, the English have a full set of points and 17 goals scored with only one conceded. Only Jakub Moder found the way to their goal in the match played at Wembley.

– In the games against Albania and San Marino the boys did what they had to do. They were supposed to score six points and they did. The topic is closed. Now the question: How many points will we score with England. It would be great to get three points, but one will be good too. I take the draw blind. The most important thing is not to lose “- said Bąk in an interview with PAP.

“Looking at how England play and how we play, I would take a blind draw.” I think England is a very strong team right now, as the last Euro can show. It wasn’t by accident that they made it all the way to the finals. We are also not so weak, but the table does not lie. For today we are weaker than them and therefore I believe the point will not be bad. I repeat, the most important thing is not to lose – he added.

How should the Polish team play to think about the score in the match against “Sons of Albion”?

– We can play it conservatively or we can take a risk. There will be different stages in this match and we have to be prepared that there will be times when we will be pushed into defense. However, we cannot play as in 1973 at Wembley. It probably wouldn’t be a good tactic. We have Robert Lewandowski and if we deliver the ball to him within the penalty area, I think he can make something of it. Let’s play as in the Euro match against Spain, and we will definitely win something. I mean such commitment, dedication and determination. It was nice to see our team back then. If this is also the case now, we will watch an interesting match – Bąk answered the question.

Even before the election of the new president of the Polish Football Association, unofficial information appeared in the media that the Poles in September will be the last matches under the leadership of Sousa. According to Bąk, firing the Portuguese at this point, even if the “White-Reds” lose on Wednesday and lose their chances of a direct promotion to the championship, would be a mistake.

– Do not make a fuss in the heads of the players, because it was not so given, it was already made and it is not such a small cauldron. Even if we lose the chances of winning the group, let’s wait for the play-offs and then their results should determine what to do with the coach. Unless there is no chance for play-offs, you have to thank and think about qualifying for the Euro. For me, dismissing Jurek Brzęczek and taking Sousa was already a mistake. This should have been done at least a year in advance. Let Sousa stay, we will go with him to the championship and then we will settle him – summed up the former football player, among others Olympique Lyon and RC Lens.

The beginning of the Poland – England match at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw on Wednesday at 20.45. Broadcast of the meeting in Polsat Sport Premium 1.
